Description of Organization:
Glen Helen is a nature preserve with 1,000 acres of flora and fauna and over 25 miles of trails. The Glen Helen
Ecology Institute exists to protect the Glen for present and future generations by engaging in land stewardship,
education, community outreach and service, and research.
Important components include the Outdoor Education Center
(OEC), Raptor Center, and Trailside Museum. The oldest of its kind in the Midwest, the Outdoor Education Center
provides residential and off-site programs for over 3,000 elementary and secondary school children each year, as
well as academic internships for undergraduate and graduate collegiate naturalists.
The Raptor Center is a specialized part of the OEC serving
as an educational and rehabilitation resource for birds of prey. Trailside Museum has live animals, exhibits, maps,
and other resources that help educate Glen visitors.
Volunteers needed: plenty of volunteer needs for stewardship,
staffing Trailside Museum, working with educational programs including hikes, producing mailings, helping to coordinate
art exhibits, staffing special events, and much more.
